About Our Business
For over 25 years we have been providing world-class IT
training and consulting services for a broad mix of clients.
We have trained individuals from not only Federal, State
and Local governments including all branches of the
military but employees of corporations that span the
globe as well. Other clients serve a particular city, state,
region or country while many are small businesses that
focus on the needs of their local community.
We believe in bringing you the best in state-of-the-art IT
training at the lowest prices anywhere while at the same
time helping those in less fortunate circumstances. We
therefore endeavor to partner with local organizations
which help identify financially disadvantaged individuals
who would benefit from a place in one of our training
classes. As we are able, we then provide them a place in
our class at no cost to them with the intention of giving
them a marketable IT skill with potential for future
employment in the IT field.
About Our Founder (Linux Instructor)
Novell SUSE 10 Certified Linux Professional
Our founder, Kurt B. Johnson, started his IT career in
1981 as a Systems Software Instructor with Burroughs
Corporation in our nation's capitol. Hired because of his
superb communications ability, he was sent through a
year and a half of rigorous mainframe software training
by Burroughs Federal Systems Group in order to be
prepared to support the largest mainframes in the world
such as those at the Defense Logistics Services Center in
Battle Creek, Michigan and Bureau of Land Management
in Seattle, Washington and Anchorage, Alaska.
Marriage brought him to Georgia in early 1984 where he
taught classes in and supported an IBM AS/400
technology environment at Crandall Business College in
Macon. There he developed the first Personal Computer
Lab and curriculum for the college with the introduction of
courses in IBM PC, MS-DOS, Wordstar, Lotus 123, and
DBASE II. After 2 years in this role he founded his own
company, Computer Training Institute, which started out
training local businesses using IBM PC and clone
technology. By late 1986 he had broadened his horizons
and was selling and implementing local area networks as
well as UNIX-based system solutions to small, medium
and large businesses throughout the state of Georgia.
In order to limit his out of town travel he joined
ComputerLogic, Inc., an international software vendor
based in Macon, Ga. in 1990 as a Unix Systems Support
representative and rose to the position of Customer
Service Director for a UNIX-based
warehouse/distribution software product. In this role he
had ultimate responsibility for remotely supporting over
200 client UNIX systems in the US and abroad.
Always forward looking, he mapped out a conversion
path for all 3 of ComputerLogic's 3rd generation software
products into the new Object-Oriented technology using
the PowerBuilder tool. A greater challenge lay ahead for
him when he left middle Georgia for Atlanta in May of
1995 to join IBM's Worldwide Chain Store Systems
group to lead a team migrating a flagship warehouse
management product from an AS/400 platform to an HP
9000 platform running HP/UX and the Oracle RDBMS
using the Synon Open tool.
In late 1996 he worked on a new technology product to
bring mainframe and mid-range legacy systems to the
fledgling Internet without rewriting the existing code.
The technology consisted of inserting a Windows NT
Server between the client's browser and the legacy
system and translating the client browser actions using a
Microsoft Classes database that had been customized to
a green screen equivalent. This project allowed several
organizations to bring their products to the web long
before rewriting these systems could be accomplished.
In 1997 he reengaged his teaching skills with Learning
Tree International as he helped them train General
Motors dealership personnel on the use of the new sales
systems GM was rolling out to dealerships around the
world. The same year he joined Superior Electronics of
Sarasota, FL and was tapped to work with the Media
One account to help them roll out a Solaris-based
solution for monitoring the hybrid fiber-coax network for
the cable giant. This pilot project in Atlanta was the
successful predecessor to a general nation-wide roll-out
of cable-based services like telephony, HDTV and
high-speed Internet access.
As a Systems Project Manager for Bellsouth he helped
their Finance and Accounting division migrate hundreds
of desktops from Windows 3.1 to Windows 95 across a 5
state area.
In 1998 he joined the Cerner Corporation, an
international hospital information systems vendor as a
Technical Project Manager responsible for implementation
of several IBM AIX-based HIS systems leading teams of
3-20 systems engineers and medical application
specialists in an on-site development environment.
Having been called back to Learning Tree International
again in 1999 to help teach in the rapidly growing UNIX
curricula supporting the Dot Com boom he has since
migrated to the even more popular Linux line, teaching
both the Introduction to Linux and the Linux
Administration courses.
Supporting his status as a world-class instructor, his
credits include teaching courses for other leading training
organizations like Accenture/SUN Services, Global
Knowledge, Hands On Technology Transfer, Inc.,
Knowledge Transfer Consulting Services, Inc., Advanced
Network Technologies, The Training Associates and
several New Horizons Computer Learning Centers.
His education includes a Bachelor of Science from
University of Maryland and graduate study in a
Management of Information Systems curriculum at
George Washington University. He also holds a
certification in Linux from The Linux Professional Institute
(lpi.org). His other certifications include UNIX
Administrator and UNIX Systems Professional as well as
Project Management Professional and IT Management
Professional and JavaScript Professional from Learning
Tree International (learningtree.com). He was certified as
and has been a public speaker for the Gideons
International on several occasions.
He is currently a UNIX/Linux consultant and part-time
instructor for Kennesaw State University in Kennesaw,
Ga.. He has taught all courses in their UNIX curriculum
leading to their own UNIX Certification. The curriculum
included courses in UNIX Administration, UNIX Security
and UNIX Networking. Additionally, he has spoken at the
university's Southeast Cybercrime Institute on the topic
of Linux: It's Fundamental Structure.
Having taught over 1000 students in UNIX/ Linux courses
during the past 20yrs, his deepest desire is to see you
and your organization benefit immensely from our
hands-on small group instruction so much so that he
personally guarantees your satisfaction with all of our
